Recent happenings...
August 14th: Rick Walk along with Tom Ratermann provided instruction on vertical techniques to a class of 12 at Capen Park on a beautiful Friday evening. Thanks to Rick for an excellent presentation on rigging and rappelling. Classes were also held at Capen on the following two Fridays, the 21st and 28th. Pat yourselves on the back if you were one of the lucky few to take advantage of this opportunity. Suggestions for beginner's opportunities? Let's plan to do an actual pit once we're up to par on our skills.

Update / Notes:
Chouteau Grotto Stream Team will be working with MOKEG, the MissOuri Karst Ecology Group, on coordinating bioinventories and water quality monitoring in Hunter's Cave Stream (draining into Bass Creek) in the near future. Details are being worked out at this time. Please welcome JoAnne Whitaker to the grotto as she will be the grad student primarily responsible for conducting the surveys. -submitted by Bob Lerch

Farewell...for now...
Nick Worden has bucked up and joined the Navy.
He has since left for boot camp, so let's wish him well.
Nick is a very active caver, having signed up (and attended!) most,
if not all, of the scheduled grotto trips this year.
He located several new Moniteau County caves in his time with
Chouteau and we can only hope he'll return and spread some more enthusiasm.
Thanks and Good Luck, NICK!!!
