Recent happenings...
September 12: Mystery Cave trip, Perry County. Bob and Andy Lerch, Rita, Nick, and
Orin Worden, and Louise Hose attended. The group spent the day as well as part of
Sunday caving. They visited some other area caves. The trip was led by Myron Lloyd,
longtime Perry County caver. Word has it a good time was had by all. (Except for Daryl
Greaser and Matt Chasen who experienced car trouble on the way and were unable to make
it.)
September 19: M.S.S. Meeting, Rolla. A report has been distributed to grotto
members.
September 19: Annual Chicken Roast, now sponsored by Chouteau. Held at Mike Morgan's,
(Chouteau Chairman) a raving success! Quite a few attended, unsure of exactly how many
but I'm sure it was in the 50+ range overall. There was plenty of food to go around,
and once again, a good time was had by all.
September 26: Fall MVOR, hosted by the MSM Spelunker's Club at Mill Creek Recreation
Area - Kaintuck Holler, near Newburg in Phelps County. Initial reports indicate a
successful event, complete with *bonus* keg provided by Bill Elliott. Bill brought the
keg as a peace offering due to his e-mail causing copious amounts of "spam" to be
distributed across the MOCAVES discussion group. Bill Elliott and Mike Morgan
attended.
September 26: 12th annual Ozark Regional Cavers gathering, Brighton, MO. Michael
Wilbanks and Rocco Romeo were believed to have attended. No report at this time.

What a great time to renew your membership! Support Chouteau Grotto!
New meeting structure: A proposal will be introduced to reformat the monthly business
meeting structure. Changes will allow for a program to start promptly by 9 PM.
Business not covered at that time will be tabled until the next meeting. The meeting
will be scheduled so that non-business issues will be towards the end. Also, moving
the meeting time to 7 will be proposed.
The grotto's own copy of the cave catalog has finally arrived. It will be available at
meetings for review. You can also call Daryl @ 573-445-8222 for information. Late
night is best.
A complete history of Chouteau has been submitted to the MSS for inclusion in an upcoming
Missouri Speleology. If you have anything to add, contact Rick ASAP. The deadline is
Oct. 15.
CD-ROMs with the 7.5" quadrangle maps are now available from the DGLS at a discount.
One CD contains a 1x1 degree area. This amounts to 64 7.5" maps, 2 1:100,000 maps, and
1 1:250,000 map. A software program is also on the CD, but reportedly unusable with
Windows95 or NT. The cost of each CD is $13.50. For more information contact Terry or
Karen @368-2125.
A directory of Missouri Natural Areas is available at no charge by writing: MDC, P.O. Box
180, Jefferson City, MO 65102, or call 573-751-4115.
If you have any information concerning the EPC/NSS fiasco, please forward it to
greaserd@health.missouri.edu, or JoSchaper@aol.com. All responses will be held
