MSS Representative's Report: Daryl reminded us that the MSS meetings are well
worth attending. Cave maps are available there, and there may be an opportunity
to
see the Cave Files. The next meeting is in Rolla on September 18 at 9 AM.
Chicken Roast, September 18. Amy Shields is heading up a committee including
Jennifer Wolff, Anna Dennis and Jeff Williams, to organize this event. BYOB and
a
covered dish.
Julie Blubaugh, and Rick Walk and family ,were congratulated for taking part
in
Cleanup Columbia.
Daryl Greaser informed members that any of us may reach all Grotto members who
have email by addressing the email to: chouteau@coollist.com
Daryl needs each member to complete the new member information forms and
submit
these to him.
Daryl appealed to members to supply him with any information on the following
caves of Three Creeks Conservation Area: Dome, Jumble, Gordon, Rolling Rock
and
Bear.
Bob Lerch and Joe Hobbs praised the Missouri Department of Conservation and
Scott
House for organizing the late August Speleology Workshop at the Presley Center
in
Shannon County. They encouraged Grotto members to take advantage of this
opportunity next time it comes up -- perhaps next spring.
Anna Dennis is still looking for volunteers for Stream Team activities in the
Three Creeks area. Contact her at 442-2497 or amd4407@aol.com.
David Webster circulated the "Ballad of Boone County," which may be crooned at
the
upcoming Chicken Roast.
Rock Bridge Memorial State Park Naturalist Roxie Campbell announced a rare D-
level trip to the Black Crinoid Passage in the Devil's Ice Box, on October 24.
Roxie appealed for a list to be drawn up of those Grotto members who would be
willing to be called upon to participate in cave rescues in Boone County. Joe
Hobbs started the list around, but in subsequent discussion with Roxie it was
decided that Moniteau and Callaway Counties should also be included. Joe will
be
emailing Chouteau members to expand the signup list, and will compile a master
list to turn over to Roxie.
Roxie previewed the Devil's Ice Box rescue drill that will take place on
September
25, and circulated a list for volunteers. There is room for all who signed up.
She
thanked the Grotto for our support of this important effort.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:13 PM
Tonight's program consisted of a presentation by Jeff Scott of the Boone
County
Fire Protection District. He spoke about the logistics of cave rescue in the
Devil's Ice Box, and also thanked the Grotto (in advance) for helping out.
Rick
Walk followed up with a slide presentation of cave rescue principles and real
life
cave rescues.
