Minutes of the Chouteau Grotto Meeting

July 5, 2000

The meeting was called to order at 7:09 PM.

23 members were present.

Treasurer's report: $1218.40 in the coffers.

Amy Shields passed out copies of a map she made of Missouri caves by
county. If you did not receive a copy of this fine map but would like
one, contact Amy at amy@amyshields.com

Foresight Editor's report: Rick Walk did not make it to the meeting.
Someone is still needed to take over his position as editor for the
2000 editions. Please contact Rick at aneswalk@tranquility.net if you
are interested in taking on this important task.

MSS Director's Report: Dave Webster stood in for Mike Morgan at the
recent meeting in Rolla. The next one will be on September 23, again in
conjunction with the MCKC meeting.

Update on the Chouteau Grotto Reunion: The dates of September
29-October 1, 2000 are firm. Please spread the word. Rick Walk was able
to secure use of the campground at Rock Bridge Memorial State Park.
Trips into the Devil's Ice Box will take place. Amy Shields will round
up the chickens and Mike Morgan will be grillmaster. Rita Worden is
working up invitations.

Stream Team: There has not been much activity lately. Bob Lerch has
proposed a Gans Creek Cleanup, perhaps on September 9, the day of
Cleanup Columbia.

Upcoming Cave Trips: Rita Worden will lead a trip to Green Cave on the
Meramec River on Saturday, July 8. Meet at the AC Exit parking lot off
of Hwy. 63 at 8:00 AM. Contact Rita for details or confirmation
(reets@c-magic.com, 660-849-2156). Ben Miller will be heading to
Mammoth Cave on August 6, then on to the Indiana Cave Capers; contact
him if you are wanting to share a ride. Rita Worden will be attending
the annual NCRC gathering (14-23 August?) in West Virginia and is also
looking for fellow passengers; contact Rita if you are interested. Ben
Miller will visit Fitton Cave around August 20; contact Ben if you want
to go.

NSS Convention Report: Bob Lerch reported that the long drive to
Elkins, West Virginia was worthwhile. About 1300 people attended, and
the campground was extremely densely-inhabited. Our caves in Missouri
have more speleothems, Bob said, and West Virginia has more vertical
caves.

Cave Reports: Ben Miller has been to Spring and Lone Hill and Anderson
1,2 and 3 Caves. Roger Brown visited a cave near the California/Nevada
border where the Devil's Hole pupfish lives. Rita Worden and Jeff
Williams visited Skaggs Cave.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:03.

There was no official program, but by popular demand Bill Elliott
repeated his digital image presentation of NSS Convention highlights,
featuring mentionable and unmentionable cavers' mud sculptures in Trout
Cave, West Virginia.
