Arrus_BT_RomanMinutes of the
Chouteau Grotto Meeting

August 2, 2000

The meeting was called to order at 7:12 P.M.

15 members attended.

Treasurer's Report $1238.48 in the coffers.

MSS Director's Report: The MSS meeting will be held in Rolla on
September 23, in conjunction with the MCKC meeting.

Foresight Editor's Report: The Grotto is still in need of someone to
replace Rick Walk for this important task. There was discussion about
the format and content of the Foresight, and general agreement that it
need not be a comprehensive publication, and need not be a quarterly.
If you have an interest in being editor, please present your ideas to
the Grotto.

Reunion Committee: The two motions about admitting non-Grotto members
to the September 29-October 1 Reunion, and advertising the Reunion in
the NSS Bulletin, were discussed. The online votes on the first motion,
and a second vote held at the meeting, resulted in unanimous approval
of the motion to allow non Grotto members to the Reunion. They will be
charged $10 each. They must be current members of the NSS or members of
a NSS affiliate grotto. All current or past Grotto members and their
family members will not be charged. The second motion was not voted on,
as it is too late to post an announcement in the Bulletin.

Dave Webster and Nathan Leigh have written up and posted snail mail and
web announcements of the reunion. Some minor changes will be made to
these.

There will be guided trips to the Devil's Icebox, Hunter's Cave, and
probably Holton Cave. One or two trips outside Boone Cave will also be
offered, probably on Sunday. Patti Williamson and Daryl Greaser will
collaborate electronically to get a Reunion Guidebook organized.

Two committees were established for the Reunion. The Setup/Camp
committee consists of Amy Shields, Bob Lerch, Mike Morgan and Jeff
Williams. The Self Guided Cave Tour Directing Committee consists of Ben
Miller, Kevin Feltz and Amy Shields.

Stream Team Report: Bob Lerch is planning on leading a cleanup of Gans
Creek on August 26, and will post the official announcement on the
Chouteau Coollist.

Patti Williamson has produced a handsome brochure about the Grotto. Ben
Miller will distribute some of these at Missouri Wilderness.

Upcoming Cave Trips: Patti Williamson has organized a
Caving/Camping/Canoeing Trip to Meramec State Park on August 12 and 13.
The plan is to visit Lone Hill Onyx Cave on the 12th and Green Cave on
the 13th. Contact Patti at 445-7187 if you want to attend. The
rendezvous will be at noon on the 12th at the State Park Visitor's
Center.

Ben Miller is travelling to Mammoth Cave and the Indiana Cave Capers on
August 5. Contact Ben if you would like to join him.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:38 P.M.

The program featured Amy Shields, who demonstrated a simple,
lightweight first aid kit for cavers. It consists of a ziploc bag,
safety pins, duct tape, gauze bandage, pencil and paper. Amy learned
about the kit from the Kansas City Grotto on one of her journeys to get
acquainted with Missouri Grottoes.
