Hi All,
I sent the minutes out Thursday on coollist but apparently they didn't go
through. I had this problem with one other email on Eudora lately. Anyway,
apologies all 'round, especially if this is a repeat posting for you.
Minutes of the Chouteau Grotto Meeting
April 4, 2001
The meeting was called to order at 7:15 P.M.
16 members were present.
Chairman's Report: Bob Lerch would like all of you to update your member's list
profile, so if you have not done so please contact Bob.
Treasurer's report: Kevin Feltz says there are $1316.37 in the coffers.
MSS Director's Report: Rita Worden says the next MSS meeting will be next month
in Rolla.
Foresight Editor's Report: Patti Williamson needs second and third quarter 2000
trip reports and photos; please get these to her. She solicited several reports
at the meeting, but needs more. Patti also graciously did the Grotto's Annual
Report to the NSS, picking up after years of service by Rick Walk.
Webmaster's Report: Mike O'Laughlin asks you to email him photos, reports and
more that you would like to see on the website. His email is on the website.
Cave Reports:
Rita Worden, Jesse Bebb and Patti Williamson participated in a restoration
effort in Fisher Cave on March 18.
Rita Worden caved in Montana in early March. With 9 people and 3 dogs she did a
9 mile cross country ski trip out to a snowbound cave called "Spider Cave,"
for good reasons: there are tens of thousands of daddy-longlegs in there.
Bob Lerch, Jim Yancey and Paul Lowry mapped another 250 feet of passage near
Chert Bridges in the Devil's Ice Box, on March 7.
Upcoming Cave Trips:
Bob Lerch is hoping for another Hunter's Cave mapping trip later this month,
pending MDC approval; stay tuned to coollist for details.
Patti Williamson will be going down to Fisher Cave on April 21 for another
restoration trip. The trip is open to all, but you should contact Patti at 445-7187
if you want to go. She is also arranging a private tour of Fisher Cave on
Saturday, July 14; again, contact her if you want to go. If you volunteer
for the restoration trips there will be a "reward" trip on August 4th
to the rarely visited Hugh Dill Room and Crystal room. We have to do a
crawl to get there in mud and water, but it is well worth the effort to see
this untouched beauty.
The annual Black Hills Restoration Camp will be held at Wild Cave National Park
and Jewel Cave National Monument from May 7-11. Contact Marc Ohms at (605)
745-4600 or Marc_Ohms@nps.gov.
Jo Schaper is happy to provide transport to a few folks going to the next MVOR.

Jo Schaper passed around a Get Well card for Don Rimbaugh, who is now
hospitalized at the V.A. in Columbia. Jo has spent a lot of time with Don and
says he is in good spirits but would welcome more visitors.
Dave Webster kindly purchased a bat kite in the name of the Chouteau Grotto and
contributed it to the MCKC auction that will be held at the next MVOR.
"Eat one toad first thing in the morning and nothing worse will happen to
you the rest of the day. " Is that true?
The meeting was adjourned at 8:33 P.M.
The program was Bob Lerch's slide presentation of several recent trips: to
several TAG caves around New Years, then several caves in South Dakota, Wyoming
and Montana. Great slides! They included the "Van Gogh Rimstone" and
lots of gypsum variety in Horsethief Cave, the "Black Forest" of
Bighorn Cavern Cave, radon caves near old uranium mines along the
Wyoming/Montana border, the famous boxwork of Wind Cave, and highlights from
Bob's spanking 18 hours in the punishing Jewel Cave.
Respectfully submitted,
Joe Hobbs, Secretary
