Old Business:

Grotto Report to the N.S.S.

- Report to NSS is being completed for submission by Bob Lerch. Any 2002

activities that you would like to be included need to be written up and

submitted no later than Jan 20, 2003. Bob has asked that there be a limit of

400 words for submissions

Rick's replacement rope

- Mike came across a deal on 600' of rope from Bob & Bob. Rick agreed to pay

the difference in price from what was raised to replace Rick's old rope.

Mike has purchased & delivered the rope to Rick Walk. He is still waiting

for the $25.00 pledged by the grotto for replacement costs.

Hunter's Cache & Logbook(s)

- Mike purchased a surplus artillery shell container from Sportsman's Guide

at a cost of $26.95 with shipping & handling. Reimbursement by the grotto

and materials for inside the cache are now needed so we can place the cache

inside Hunter's Cave.

Crawlathon @ Carter Caves S.P. Kentucky

- January 24-26, 2003. Anyone interested in going? Deadline for registration

is Jan 19th. If you are interested in going, contact Joe Dom for more

information

New Business:

Programs

- Would anyone be interested in giving a cave related program after a

meeting? The program could be in the format of slideshows, videos,

instructional sessions (surveying, etc). Please contact Joe if you are

willing to do a program.

- Would anyone be interested in having CPR and/or First Aid instruction for

certification (Red Cross or Heart Association) given as a program or in

place of usual meeting time? Joe will check into the possibility of having

someone come & give CPR/First Aid training.

Constitution

- Joe will look into possible sources for a copy of the Constitution to be

transferred to electronic format for the website. It was recommended to

check old Foresights as it had occasionally been printed there in the past.

Membership

- It was discussed if we should try to actively recruit new members from the

university? Possible places to start would be the University Outdoor

Adventure Club, University Climbing Club, Earth Day festivities and the

Bulletin Boards at MO Wilderness & Alpine Shop. Joe will start looking to

see what is available.

Grotto's position on groups contacting the grotto for cave tours

- KCAG has a good write-up on their webpage concerning groups (and in

particular Scout groups) asking for someone to lead intro cave tours.. Joe

will contact KCAG to see if we can use a copy of their policy. Also we would

need someone to be the official contact for groups requesting cave tours.

Grotto Equipment

- A discussion was had regarding what equipment the grotto has owned in the

past. At one time the grotto own a cable ladder, and helmets & lights. The

helmets and lights were loaned to Jamestown school in return for cave

reports. The cable ladder is MIA.

- It was also discussed that if the grotto would begin to recruit new

members, loaner equipment would be needed for intro cave tours. Joe will

begin looking into costs to begin replacing some of the grotto equipment.

Inner Mountain Outfitters has a deal running on a set of 8 Easter Seal

"Roosa" headlamps for $144 ($18 each, regularly $25).  Mike has volunteered

to be the grotto quartermaster if we were to start accumulating grotto

equipment again. There would be a strict checkout-checkin procedure to

guarantee equipment is returned in good condition.

Cave Reports:

- In the future when you go on trips, would someone from the group please

try to write up a short trip report to be submitted to the Foresight Editor

for publication in the Foresight.

- Mike Walk went caving in Papago Springs Cave in Arizona. It is a nice

crawly cave with a lot of canyon work and a good keyhole.

Upcoming Cave Trips

Winter Campout

- The winter campout is TENTATIVELY scheduled for the weekend of Presidents

Day. (Immediately following Valentine's Day) if Vince clears it with the

folks at the campground. Vince needs a headcount of those going so please

RSVP to Vince at caverat@worldnet.att.net or via Coollist if you plan to go

ASAP!

Anything else?

- Brent Gerling from the Pony Express Grotto came to ask for Chouteau's help

with Spring MVOR. The Pony Express Grotto is looking for caves north of Lake

of the Ozarks to have trips to during MVOR. If you have any suggestions,

contact Pony Express Grotto or Brent Gerling at jbg9730@netscape.net

The meeting was adjourned at 8:15PM. There was no program.

Respectfully submitted in the absence of Joe Hobbs,

Joe Dom
